The rules, explained simply

This page sums up, in plain words, the rules for public bets, from the moment a question is published to its result. If in doubt, the Terms of Use are the binding text.

1. What a public bet is

A public bet is a question about an upcoming event, visible to everyone. It has possible answers (yes or no, or several choices), a date when betting closes and a date when the result is expected. It is created by a player, by the Pick it team, or by the @pickitsport account, which publishes matches from the official competition calendars.

2. The two dates

Until betting closes, anyone can make a pick. After that, nobody can bet any more: the bet waits for the event. The result is established after the expected date. Both dates are shown on the bet's page.

3. The percentage and what it pays

An answer's percentage comes from the community's picks and an opening estimate. It moves in real time, in limited steps, and is only guaranteed once your stake is confirmed. A correct answer pays the stake divided by that percentage: 200 Credits placed at 40% pay 500 Credits. A wrong answer loses the stake.

4. How the result is established

The result always relies on a dated public source. Depending on the bet, it is read automatically from a data source (official match score, cryptocurrency price) or checked by moderation. An AI is used only as a fallback, when no human check has taken place within 24 hours of the deadline.

A bet is never settled before the answer is actually known: a question such as "will the price pass a given level before a given date?" is only settled as No once that date has passed. A finished bet's page shows the correct answer and explains the decision.

5. Several correct answers

On a multiple-choice bet, moderation can accept several correct answers when the event calls for it, for example in case of a tie.

6. Refunds

Stakes are refunded in particular when:

  • a two-sided bet ends in a draw, so no winner is possible;
  • a stake was placed when the outcome was already publicly known;
  • the creator deleted the bet before betting closed;
  • moderation cancelled or deleted the bet, for example because the question was badly worded.

If none of the proposed answers happened, moderation can close the bet without a winner: stakes are then lost.

7. Disputing a result

When a bet was settled by the AI, its creator has a window to dispute it. Any player can also report a result from the bet's page. Moderation reviews it and can correct it: Credits are then taken back or paid according to the right answer, with no double payment. Apart from a correction, the result is final.

8. Seasons

A season lasts two months. At the end of each season, every player's Credit balance goes back to the same starting level, 10,000 Credits. A stake still in play at that moment is neither paid nor refunded: before betting, check whether the result date falls before the end of the season.

9. Group bets

In a private group, bets work like a vote between members, without Credits. They are visible to the group only, and their result is settled among its members.

10. Fair play and content

Not allowed: scripts and bots, exploiting bugs, multiple accounts, collusion between players and any manipulation of percentages or the leaderboard. Hateful, harassing, defamatory, violent, sexual or misleading content is banned everywhere, including comments and messages.

Any content can be reported: every report is reviewed by a person within 24 hours, and an account that breaks the rules can receive a warning or be suspended.

11. Age

Pick it is for people aged 18 and over.
